At Silicon Technology, Wim Meulders developed in 2000 the Proximus Mobile Internet Pack, a smartphone “avant la lettre” together with Socket.
After a talk with Proximus on how a PDA without mobile connection could go online “over the air”, Wim proposed a solution based on a Socket Bluetooth CompactFlash card. The solution was accepted and sold in 2000. An HP Jornada was flashed with dedicated software so that it could connect over Bluetooth to a Sony Ericsson GPRS enabled mobile phone allowing the PDA to go online like SmartPhones do now.
The Proximus Mobile Internet Pack was produced by Silicon Technology and assembled by Proximus. It was the only mobile internet solution available in Belgium.
