At Silicon Technology Wim Meulders developed the Compaq GPS Navigation Pack, the first talking GPS navigation solution for iPAQ together with the start-up Alturion.
After a talk with Mike Adams from Compaq, Wim started importing the Navman GPS sleeves but the software delivered with those GPS receivers was not voice enabled so you could see where you had to drive but there were no voice directions. At that time Lernout & Hauspie, an innovator in voice technology went bankrupt and 4 guys working at L&H founded Alturion, a GPS navigation solution for Windows notebooks which was transformed for PDA use and build into the Navman GPS receiver on a CompactFlash card.
The Compaq GPS Navigation Pack was produced and built by Silicon Technology and was the best-selling GPS navigation solution in Belgium.
